Canadian Hydro

Do you support Canadian hydro?

Canada Action and our supporters are dedicated to promoting a balanced conversation about all of Canada’s natural resources, and the families who depend on them.

That’s why we are asking you to take a moment to pledge your support for our hydropower sector.

A online group has launched a campaign criticizing Canada’s renewable hydroelectric power.

The petition is claiming that Canada’s sustainable hydroelectricity industry is a “human rights, climate and environmental disaster”.

As we are all aware, this claim couldn’t be further from the truth.

It is widely understood and accepted across the world that hydroelectricity is a vital part of our future energy mix. Hydro power is part of the solution, not the problem.

It’s equally important to note that in addition to being an environmentally sustainable power source, hydro is also vital to Canada’s economy.

We are blessed to have one of the largest freshwater reserves on Earth. That abundance of naturally flowing water has given us a special opportunity to capture its movement and generate clean and reliable electricity.

Hydroelectricity provides Canadians with 60% of our total electricity production. We need that power to do literally anything.

But in addition to powering Canada, it’s also a huge source of export revenue as well. We are a net exporter of hydroelectric power to the United States. Meaning we are actually able to sell more hydroelectric power at a profit than we need here domestically.

The industry is also projected to attract $125B of investment and provide 1,000,000 Canadians with stable jobs over the next 20 years.1

Hydro is good for the environment.

Hydro is good for the economy.

Hydro is good for Canada.

Plain and simple.

Will you take a moment to add your name in support of Canadian hydro? We all win when we work together in support of Canadian energy.
