Time for Action

Canada needs to build major projects and secure our economic future

Canada promised to build major projects and critical infrastructure at speeds not seen in generations – now we must deliver, move quickly, and ensure our future economic success.

We can’t control global events, but we can reduce our vulnerability and increase our resilience by diversifying our export markets – by building trade infrastructure like pipelines, power lines, ports, rail, and roads.

To stay competitive, Canada must expedite the approval and construction of major projects to ensure a brighter, stronger, and more prosperous future for our families – we need to act now.

Canadians need job-creating, prosperity-generating investment in our natural resource sectors.

With challenging economic conditions including poor GDP per capita growth, alarmingly low productivity rates, and changing trade relationships, Canada must take action now to build major projects and create a stronger future for our families.

Canada’s vast wealth of natural resources – from oil and natural gas to softwood and minerals to fertile soil and abundant sun and wind – is our natural advantage.

By supporting the development of our energy, forestry, mining, and agriculture sectors, and allowing ourselves to export in-demand goods produced by these key sectors to international markets in an increasing capacity, we are taking concrete steps today to make Canada stronger tomorrow.

Canada must move swiftly to start building new infrastructure

Global events – whether in Ukraine or Venezuela, or in the ever-changing relationship with our largest trading partner, the U.S. – have shown that Canada must move swiftly to construct new major projects and build out trade infrastructure to help us diversify our markets.

If Canada wants a sovereign, independent future that makes our economy more resilient to rapidly changing geopolitics and potential trade disputes, we need to take concrete action today.

"It's time to build new trade and energy corridors working in partnership with the provinces, territories, and Indigenous peoples. It's time to build hundreds of thousands of not just good jobs, but good careers in the skilled trades. It's time to build Canada into an energy superpower in both clean and conventional energy." Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy & Natural Resources

Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia

“Offshore natural gas has the potential to support good-paying jobs while generating revenue to build up Nova Scotia’s economy. It’s time to unlock Nova Scotia’s potential.” [X, TimHoustonNS]

Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan

“Canada should be leading, not sidelining itself. Export capacity is not a nice to have, it’s a need to have. Saskatchewan knows that securing our economic future means securing access to the world for our resources.” [X, PremierScottMoe]

Laurent Ferreira, President & CEO, National Bank of Canada

“The priorities that are set right now by Ottawa in terms of nation building, reindustrialization, defence spending, those things are so important right now for our country. Scott Thomson, President & CEO, Bank of Nova Scotia

“As the Venezuelan crude [oil] re-enters the system over the next five to 10 years, having another pipeline here for Canada is really important.” [Financial Post]
