An exciting new poll has found that Canada, a nation defined by its democratic values and principles, is the preferred oil supplier among G7 allies [1]. Respondents worldwide were asked to rank eight possible oil suppliers; the results showed that Canada ranked in the top three 68% of the time, the highest of all possible suppliers. We also ranked as the second most preferred supplier among the G20 nations, second only to the Middle East.
Conducted by Ipsos between April 25th and May 9th, 2025, the poll confirms what Canada Action has been saying for more than ten years: as long as the world needs oil and gas, it should be Canadian!

- Across the G20, Canada ranked second for being in the top three the most often, underscoring its broad appeal due to political stability, reliable supply, regulatory measures, and strong trade ties.
- The Middle East, ahead of Canada in the rankings, increased its favourability among G20 respondents for its strategic energy role and global political involvement.
The World Needs More Canadian Oil & Gas
Canada continues to shine as a reliable supplier of oil, valued for its democratic institutions, robust regulatory standards, and commitment to free and fair trade. Polling affirms this, with our country ranking as one of the most favourable oil suppliers worldwide.
To maximize this advantage, Canada must be ready to expand its oil capacity beyond traditional markets. Today, the US accounts for well over 90 per cent of our exports, resulting in an oil price differential that costs the Canadian economy billions of dollars every year. This underscores the urgent need for new Canadian pipelines and other related infrastructure to access growing international markets, which in turn will help maximize the value of our resources much like the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion.
By prioritizing new pipeline expansion, Canada can secure its economic independence and increasingly help meet the world's needs as a reliable, preferred global energy supplier.
Let’s Get to Work!
Canada has what the world wants – oil, natural gas, food, wood, minerals, metals, and everything in between. It’s time to build the new trade infrastructure necessary to get more of our natural resource products to market, supporting our G7 allies, as well as Canadian families and our country’s future prosperity for generations to come.
What are we waiting for?
