
An incredible new poll has found that most Canadians support domestic oil and gas development as our country continues to navigate an increasingly challenging trade relationship with our largest export market and trading partner.
According to polling by Yorkville Strategies, a whopping 96% of Canadians want to diversify our country’s trading partners, 91% say Canada should expand its oil and natural gas exporting abilities, and 89% now want to build more refineries and LNG terminals [1].
In addition, 86% of Quebecers and 92% of British Columbians now support pipelines, significantly higher than in past polls. Also, 82% of Canadians say that Canada should fast-track oil and gas development permits.
On a project basis, 82% of respondents supported a new Northern Gateway pipeline to ship Alberta’s energy off the West Coast. Furthermore, 84% said they would support a new Energy East pipeline that would ship oil from Southern Alberta to central and eastern Canadian provinces, including 77% support in Quebec.
The poll was conducted in mid-February on behalf of Alberta and had 1,741 respondents, with a 2.3% margin of error 19 times out of 20.
