To build a stronger future for Canadian families, we must lean into our natural economic advantage: energy, mining, food and forestry. Canada’s growing liquefied natural gas export sector is ready to deliver the energy the world can count on.
Right now, many countries around the world are looking for secure, reliable energy from stable democratic suppliers. Canada, with its abundant natural gas reserves, is well positioned to meet that need.
The benefits of stepping up to become a major LNG exporter are immense.
A healthy West Coast LNG sector could boost Canada’s GDP by $11 billion annually, adding up to more than $500 billion in potential economic activity between 2020 and 2064 [1].
This potential growth is a real opportunity for Canadians to secure a strong economic future.
Coastal GasLink, the pipeline supplying both the LNG Canada and Cedar LNG projects, supported 25,700 full-time job equivalents in British Columbia [2] – critical jobs for many rural, remote, and Indigenous communities.
Canada’s LNG opportunity goes far beyond just jobs and GDP.
First Nations are signing benefit agreements with major LNG infrastructure projects, and in some cases, are partners and owners.
Cedar LNG is a powerful example. It is Canada's largest Indigenous-owned infrastructure project, creating long-term prosperity and new opportunities for First Nations to invest in housing, education, and cultural preservation.
At the same time, global demand for natural gas is growing. LNG demand is projected to rise by 65% by 2050 [3], and countries including Japan, South Korea, China, Germany, Poland, and the Philippines have all directly expressed strong interest in buying Canadian LNG
The world is asking for Canadian-made energy. It’s time we deliver.
Canada has the world's 9th largest natural gas reserves [4], but until 2025, it was the only top-10 global supplier without LNG export capacity. Now it is up to us to live up to our full potential; building every LNG project possible - whether it’s in British Columbia, Quebec, or in the Atlantic - allows us to maximize the value of our natural resources and helps us secure a stronger future.
With our abundant natural gas resources, world-renowned regulatory standards, and reputation as a dependable trading partner, Canada has what it takes to be a go-to LNG supplier.
A strong Canadian LNG sector can help deliver economic growth, support communities, and strengthen our country’s role in global energy security.
