Why Canada’s oil and gas emissions cap doesn’t make sense.
Canada is the only major energy producer trying to limit its oil and natural gas production through an emissions cap.
Why?
“Each time Ottawa forces the Canadian energy sector to contract, it is foreign producers who win. Ottawa does not have the means to affect global demand, so reducing local supply will only end up exporting jobs and tax revenues.”
Gabriel Giguere – Public Policy Analyst, Montreal Economic Institute
“Every barrel of oil that won’t be produced due to Ottawa’s emissions cap is one more barrel Venezuela, Iran or Russia will be happy to sell.”
Montreal Economic Institute
“Pursuing a sector-specific emissions policy would come at a high cost… creating undue harm to the economy and the purchasing power of Canadians.”
Goldy Hyder – President & CEO, Business Council of Canada
“We strongly oppose an emissions cap… it is simply a punitive approach, not in line with other countries.”
Tristan Goodman – President, Explorers and Producers Association of Canada
“The economic consequences of enacting this plan are very serious. It would make Canada the only country in the world which willingly and purposefully stifles its single largest revenue stream.”
Dan McTeague – President, Canadians for Affordable Energy
Global demand for oil and natural gas is growing and will for many years to come.
A cap on Canadian oil and gas is a cap on:
- Canadian jobs
- Canadian prosperity
- Indigenous opportunity
- Energy Security
The world needs more Canadian oil and gas – not less!
