Is public support for nation-building projects like pipelines staying strong?
New research by Environics shows that a significant majority of Canadians remain supportive of new oil pipelines. According to the report, respondents sense that Canada needs to adopt a different approach when it comes to developing our natural resources and trade infrastructure.
Based on a national survey of over 2,000 Canadians, the polling confirms not just unwavering support for oil and gas, but a significant shift in public opinion; for example, support for a new eastern pipeline has surged from 50% over the last decade to nearly three-quarters of Canadians today.
The results echo a previous Nanos survey in June that also found 73% of Canadians would support or somewhat support building a national energy corridor, including a new pipeline to transport oil and gas from Alberta to Eastern Canada.
