Canada's forest industry is an important part of our nation's prosperity, creating jobs and economic opportunities in hundreds of communities across the country. In 2021, for example, the sector directly employed nearly 206,000 people while generating $34.8 billion of economic activity and providing an average wage of about $54,500 for workers.
But Canada's forests are so much more than just an economic boon we are blessed to have. Over 23 million people live in or near forests in Canada, and for many of us, these beautiful landscapes are a core part of our Canadian identity as we live, work and play in them year-round.
